The History of Horticare

The History of Horticare
Horticare, a registered charity, was formed in 1992 by a group of parents to meet the very real needs of the learning disabled people of Wakefield and the surrounding area. It was inspired by Bluecoat Wood Nurseries in Harrogate, run by the registered charity, Horticap.
The charity of Horticare built Lindhill Nurseries on part of a three acre site in Kirkhamgate. It set up greenhouses, a shop, offices, a workshop, a polytunnel, a kitchen and adjoining canteen, a customer car park, and large display areas for plants. We worked on our greenfield site throughout 1993 and finally opened for business in May 1994.
We employ horticulturally qualified staff and always welcome volunteers to help in any way they can. If you would like to contribute in any way, then please feel free to contact us or drop by at the Nursery.
We regularly receive many kind donations from local people and through fund raising events. Every winter we host a Christmas fayre and coffee morning, which is open to all, and includes a raffle, tombola and Christmas hamper.
